- Feel free to come with a pocket full of cash kind of loaded, because it’s savvy and sexy for a man to always have cash in his pocket, particularly on a date.
- Other than that, show up sober. Show her some respect. If you’re going to get a little tipsy on the date together, you can do that. But show up in the same headspace as her. Think of the reverse: if she showed up a couple of sheets to the wind, and you were sober and fresh, you’d be turned off too.
- It’s better to be shy and awkward and loaded and nodding off at the dinner table. Yes, I’ve seen and heard it all. There are people that take drugs ahead of the date to calm their nerves and next thing you know . . . they’re passing out AT THE DINNER TABLE. Don’t be that guy. It’s way more endearing to show some nerves and humanity than to show up and be fine for one glass, and toast on the first sip of the second. That’ll scare her right off forever! Adorable shyness won’t.
- Alternatives to showing up intoxicated: do a hard workout and take a hot shower with some nice music before the date, to get yourself relaxed. Just be sure to plan the timing of it appropriately, so that you arrive (as stated in a previous blog) fifteen minutes early. A gentleman never leaves a beautiful woman waiting on him. That’s just a turnoff! Nothing cool about fashionably late to a date.
- Follow her lead. If you don’t drink at all, that’s one thing. Clearly, you just won’t drink on the date. But if you do partake, follow her lead. If she orders a cocktail/wine, you order a cocktail/wine. If she orders a water or tea, you order something non-alcoholic. You want to be on the same wavelength as one another, so you can connect. True connection will come on a sober hiking/coffee date, but if you are enjoying a flirty evening with a bottle of champagne, that counts too! Remember, romance is different from ordinary life. That’s what makes romance, romance. It’s celebratory, outside of the norm, and fun!
